Lake Greenwood Bass Fishing

For largemouth bass fishing, Lake Greenwoods is one of the better lakes that you could head to for a day spent on the water fishing, either by yourself or with a bunch of friends. Any angler familiar with largemouth bass will be able to tell you that there are certain parts of a lake that you should look for and what time of day you should be aiming for. Well, that’s why we are here.

Lake Greenwood, just like other lakes, has its share of shallow water hazard markers that are dotted appropriately around the lake. When it comes to bass fishing, these hazard markers are particularly helpful so thanks for that guys! These spots are quite ‘popular’ with largemouth bass as they seem to like the sudden deep-to-shallow depth change.

What is the reason that bass like these shallow water areas so much? They come to the shallow water areas looking for food, and bass can feed very aggressively before heading back into deeper water. Dusk and dawn are the ideal times for an angler to head into these areas if they have bass on their mind, as these are the times that bass like to come out to feed. Here, you may well find Crankbaits and Texas-rigged worm helpful in your largemouth bass hunting efforts.

Of course, you should not restrict yourself to only fishing in shallow water for your largemouth bass targets – bass can be found throughout the lake, but you can typically expect around an extra half-dozen more bites in shallow waters over the whole day’s fishing on the lake. During the month of July, these shallow-water areas can have a big impact on the success of your day’s fishing – turning an okay day, into a great one.

The upper end of Greenwood Lake

When water depths are are looked at, the upper and lower parts of Greenwood Lake are quite different. For instance, along the Saluda River channel there are many ridges and humps that can sit around 12 to 15 feet of the surface of the water at the edges of the channel. Back toward the shoreline, on the flat side of the humps, water depth becomes deeper before rising up to the shoreline.

It is on these higher parts, i.e. the shallower water, is perfect for largemouth bass to get together, hangout, feed and then be hunted. Travelling further along the lake you will see that the Saluda forms a junction with Reedy River. Each arm of Greenwood Lake is going to provide a lot of opportunity for fishing in the shallow waters here.

Of course, there are smaller largemouth bass out here too but if you focus on the 10 to 12 feet depths then you will keep getting quality bites right through to the middle of the day. You will find yourself bringing in some of the larger female (hawg) fish too.

The upper end of the Lake is excellent hunting ground for largemouth bass, you are absolutely sure to have an amazing day of fishing on Greenwood Lake.
